Job Description
- The Character Technical Director is responsible for creating high-quality photorealistic and non-photorealistic character rigs. They work closely with our animators, modellers, and programmers across all of Humain’s productions as well as research and development. The Character Technical Director must be able to provide solutions to current workflows whilst ensuring they can be generalised for all future productions where possible.
Roles and responsibilities
- Create high-quality animation rigs for a large variety of believable characters and creatures, to be driven by key frame animation, motion capture data, and artificial intelligence.
- Collaborate with artists, technical directors, and supervisors to determine the rigging, animation, and technical animation needs for our current and future productions.
- Collaborate with the Humain team to rig characters to achieve believable deformations and motion.
- Help design intuitive UI’s for animators and mocap solvers.
- Design and implement solutions targeting current production workflows, while ensuring they can be generalized for all productions when possible.
- Advanced skills in skinning and deformation.
- Design and build base skeleton systems and control systems for all character body and facial setups.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends for Rigging and Animation workflows.
- Optimise rigs for real-time environments for maximum quality.
Qualifications should include
- Maya rigging (full body/facial)
- A passion for creating believable CG characters and the requisite attention to detail
- Experience with full scripted modular rigging systems
- Python scripting expertise
- Analytical and artistic skills, creativity and visual problem solving
- Teamwork, communication and time management skills
- A great knowledge of anatomy for bipeds and quadrupeds, skeletons and muscles
- A great understanding of constraints and deformers, how they work and their limitations
- Qualified applicants should have 2+ years of experience in rigging for AAA video game environment in either real-time or cinematics. Film, animation, and television experience would be considered
